Watching the snow flurries outside the window this morning wasn't as depressing as I had expected. A lifelong fan of summer and warm weather, I'm 50ish in New Hampshire, and a cool rainy summer is joining my memories in the rear-view.
The garden needs to get turned under when I get up to the farm (maybe this weekend), and I look forward to additional insulation in my Amherst attic cutting my heating oil bills down once I install it. I don't like to itch, will be using fiberglass, and have done it often enough to start scatching just thinking about it.
I have a house, job, wife, son, grandchildren, and some optimism left, though. My life isn't hopeless and this all brings gratitude if I think about it.
Helping others may result from that kind of thought, but I can't do enough to be satisfied.
Self-satisfaction isn't a great goal anyway. Nor is comfort, ultimately, but that doesn't stop me checking the weather in Honolulu and Barcelona after looking at the local forecast on weather.com .
Any road - if you read this and are reasonably healthy and not too hungry, then smile.
peace and love,
Mike
